Celebrating Impeccable Design: IDH Wins Three 2024 ASID Design Awards

Let me tell you a funny little story related to the 2024 American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Awards. In a crazy turn of events, my team and I didn’t know we had won any awards — and due to an unusually stressful trip abroad and resulting jet lag and lack of sleep, I had actually dozed off on my sofa on the night of the awards ceremony. Suddenly, my phone ignited with colleagues texting me asking where the heck I was because our team was “cleaning up at the ASID Awards!”

What an honor to win three FIRST PLACE Design Awards from the ASID — a true reflection of the passion and care we pour into every project.

While the recognition is certainly a gift and an honor, the real reward is always our client’s delight when they experience the new interior home design we’ve created in partnership with their unique design fingerprint.

Here’s a little peek at a couple of our ASID award-winning spaces.

Primary Bedroom Bliss

As hard as it may be to believe, I absolutely swear that these before and after images are the same bedroom. Our client purchased this house and asked us what we thought we could do to make it better. In the case of this primary bedroom…quite a bit.

There were two major things that put this bedroom transformation on course. First, we reduced and removed a lot of the heavy, dated, stained millwork and finishes and we modernized the fireplace design, cladding it in quarter-matched stone.

Second: Windows! The cacophony of mismatched windows you see in the “before” images? GONE! The previous clerestory windows forced an awkward placement of the bed with no room for nightstands on each side. We also advised our client that they’d be well-served to redo the windows across from the bed by creating a full wall of glass at the rear of the bedroom to reveal the multi-million-dollar view.

These two changes alone reinvented the mood of this primary bedroom interior design  modernizeing the space exponentially — AND – it doubled in size visually.

From there, we added the sculptural, sophisticated palette of furnishings, first indulging our clients’ fantasy: they fell in love with a stunning chaise when we took them to NYC’s design centers – that one piece then completely inspired us to design the rest of the gorgeous furnishings.

A Gorgeous Great Room

What a pleasure it was to fully custom-design this client’s two-story great room, as well. Our client’s literally asked us if we could “de-cowboy” the this space an te full residence. We replaced the dated finishes and heavy woods to create a vibe of relaxed, modern sophistication.

To strike the perfect balance between a more subtle, quiet mood she adores and his affinity for bold, strong moves, this interior room design plays to both sides.

We cast a feeling of intimacy by bringing the ceiling and floor a little closer to each other — visually — by broadcasting a large-scale pattern in the rug and hanging a series of light fixtures overhead, suspended from stained beams, to lower the soaring ceiling a smidge. We removed a lot of stained millwork; keeping the stained ceiling beams in this space, but hand painting all the remaining millwork and doors to a bright gloss back was a game changer. (That last move when suggested was an immediate yes for him, a risk for her  – but one they BOTH ultimately LOVED!)

Additional bold moves took shape in the book-matched stone fireplace — a thing of beauty that certainly didn’t look like that before. It moves the room forward with its strong pattern and becomes a piece of art in the space — just like Audrey, a whimsical, adjacent focal point on the wall.

The layering of multiple textures was also essential here for the bespoke, elevated effect that is impeccable yet personal. From smooth stones and glossy acrylics to high-polish metals, glass, lush velvets, nubby wools, cottons, and more, the gang’s all here. The pairing of multiple complementary yet diverse textures is an art form that requires training, experience and an expert eye. Done well, the result is a gorgeous space and story.

As you can probably tell, this was not a client who clips the designer’s wings, so they got a lot out of us — including two of our recent three ASID Awards – all a testament to how incredible their home truly is! When clients let us lead them through our proven design process, wonderful things happen. When they also ask us to push the boundaries and surprise them, as this client did – the skies the limit.

The results truly speak for themselves. And our clients have reported being so ecstatic and proud walking people through their home and entertaining here.

THAT is the true reward for our interior design firm.
