Reinvent and Revitalize Your Home Office Interior Design
New Year. New You. NEW OFFICE?
If your work-from-home space is slacking off, it’s time to resolve and tackle that office falling short.
You deserve a life-enhancing home workspace that brings you joy while optimizing your productivity and quality of life. IDH Home Offices check all the boxes: a high-function, aesthetic haven, so you love every minute you spend in it – working your best, feeling your best, living your best.
As the owner of a luxury interior design firm, I receive a lot of requests for home offices that act as havens. I have a home office, and I want people to love walking into theirs as much as I do mine! Excellent organization, perfect style, perfect fit – and feeling extremely proud when you’re on a Zoom call – knowing that your space is impressively looking.
Here are four ways to reinvent and revitalize your home office interior design.
1. Start With the Room
If your home “office” is currently wherever you set up your laptop, it’s time to carve out a dedicated workspace as your first priority. In a home that didn’t include a dedicated home office in the architect’s vision, spare bedrooms, guest rooms or unused basement space are the most common picks for creating a dedicated home office. Unused living rooms are also an option.
The advantage of a bedroom is that it has four walls and a door, which means instant focus and separation from the rest of the house. You can also make use of its closet to stow away office supplies, a printer, and other necessities.
Even a corner in a finished basement is another solid option. While you’ll probably have a challenge with lighting, carefully selected lamps and gorgeous mirrors that bounce light around the room can help mitigate those issues.
2. Think Style
For a knock-it-out-of-the-park home office interior design indulge your style muse. Have a favorite color? Try draping your space in it. For this client, who loved — robin’s egg blue — we bathed the space in that hue.
In the same office, we added a stunning desk made of carved wood with glam metal accents; it’s eye-candy, a piece of sculpture on its own.
We also love bringing in plants and florals for a fresh take.
The bottom line is this: that which is beautiitul to you – as long as your functional needs are addressed – will be soul-soothing and a true pleasure to spend your working hours in – the exact opposite of the cold, sterile office people dread.
3. Be Intentional with Storage
Let’s face it… clutter creates chaos, disorganization, and lots of mental clutter too.
It’s important to declutter mercilessly, purging old files, books, and reference materials you haven’t touched for two years or more. All this is in support of being unwaveringly strategic on how you “spend” the available space for storage and organization.
We love to integrate endless hidden storage — like we did in this home office interior design that also boasts fully custom bespoke cabinetry to conceal all those unsightly office “things” (you know the ones!). Plus, with metal mesh panels, these cabinets double as glinting jewelry accents in the space…ds a la coda…think style.
The best 3 rules to live by for good looking, high function organization: Keep what you need close at hand. Keep what you love looking at out in the open. Keep the “necessary but ugly” easy to use but hidden from view.
4. Give Yourself Little Bonuses
It’s so important to fill your home office with beauty – whatever that brand of beauty is to you. Lifting the aesethci will always energize and inspire.
Lean into art: I often suggest going for one big, impactful piece — or, there are now striking wallpaper murals to choose from that eliminate the need for art but are equally statement making on their own.
You can also add little moments of sculpture — or a trio of vases or curvaceous bookends thoughtfully displayed inside cabinetry. Keep it very intentional and clean while introducing some flair.
And do not miss this: A functional office chair can be aesthetically pleasing, too. However, we also love adding additional elegance with a lush faux fur throw. It’s soft, looks stellar in person and on camera.
Anything that delights your spirit should be in your home office interior design. It’s your space, so infuse it with colors, finishes, and artwork that lift and inspire creativity and bring you serenity.
(Oh, and expect everyone on that next Zoom call to utter a few oooohs and aaaahs!)
