Design Trends Spotted at High Point Market: Part Two

We are back with Part Two of our High Point Market Trends Report! If you missed Part One, you can catch up right here on our interior design blog.

Spoiler alert: We talked about major trends in color, how caramel is being drizzled everywhere, and the preponderance of curves.

Here are a few more of the major trends in interior home design that we took note of during the absolutely jam-packed days at market.

A Traditional Throwback Turned Modern

Traditional style is back, baby — but in a very distinct, transitional way that brings together more contemporary, clean lines in furniture and decor for a well-curated interior room design.

Yet the resurgence in the sturdy familiarity of the classics does mean more ornate details in furnishings, more florals and damask patterns, more froofy window coverings (not sure I’m excited about those!), all manners of tufting (horizontal! channel! square!), and more.

Just remember: This isn’t all a throwback. The modern take on traditional classics expertly combines an impeccably curated combination of both past and current.

Lighting as Art and Innovation

Light fixtures continue to be an eye candy moment, consistently mingling between form and function, sculpture and practicality. There have been so many innovations in LED lighting out there, transforming the way we think about bringing illumination to a space.

Here’s another one that caught our fancy: Draped chain fixtures and ropes of lighting that are nothing short of a room’s jewelry were pure stunners.

Of course, there is still every version of a Sputnik you can imagine, too.

By and large, the lighting of the moment is a statement piece everywhere you turn.

Fabrics are Highly Textured

Not only does there continue to be a focus on sustainable, high-performance fabrics that are designed for modern living — and gorgeous — we are seeing a continued rush of SO much visible texture. Fuzzy, nubby, hairy, chunky, knitted, and crushed; it’s all in the mix.

Let’s start with bouclé: Yes, it’s still out there and it ranges from the tightest weave to chunky, bold variations.

Eyelash fabrics really took hold, too, whispering across upholstery in a sophisticated, fringe fashion.

One variation on this trend we won’t be putting on our dance card: A chunky, burlap weave in a multicolor pattern (if you just threw up in your mouth, you aren’t alone). This fabric was so rough you could file your nail on it. Someone out there may think this is stupendous — and that’s the beauty of trends. You don’t have to follow them all.
