The Fabulous Foyer
Give me a great foyer any day of the week. It’s here that you welcome your guests, set the tone of your home’s design and if space permits, you can “get your grandeur on.” Take a look at this “Architectural Digest” beautiful foyer. I just love the way this came out. Here’s what we did.
Step One. Re-stain to deepen and update the wood floors throughout the 1st floor.
Step Two. Stain the balustrade (the banister and posts) of the staircase, taking them about 20% darker than the floor. This accent will make the staircase more striking.
Step Three. Keep the sensational center hall table, but top it with a stunning urn we found downtown.
Step Four. The center hall table calls for a marvelous custom rug and the stairs call for a simple wool runner. Poof – we made both.
Step 5. I see in my mind’s eye a great bench with an over sized mirror hung above it done in a black lacquer frame sitting on one wall. I design both and they are marvelous looking in this foyer. A little wink from the ready-made orange pillow is perfect.
Step 6. My client’s great folk art style painting called for a great new frame. This faux shagreen cabinet by Century is eye candy, truly. Not to be overlooked is the gorgeous crystal footed bowl sitting on top of it, found downtown, along with that great orange and red round vase – PERfect with the glossy orange pillow and our color palette in total. Let us not forget that great little gray button back chair. Mmmmm.
This foyer doesn’t just welcome you – it says, “I know you‘re going to want to stay a while.”
